January 25-27 2008 Combine Report

January 28, 2008

UMBC Stadium - This past weekend saw Crystal Palace USA's first player combine of the year, as Jim and Pete looked to supplement the squad for the upcoming season.  Fifteen talented young players braved frigid temperatures as Sporting Director and co-manager, Jim Cherneski and his coaching staff put the trialists through their paces at UMBC stadium.  Jim also engaged the expert help of reknowned Georgetown coach, Keith Tabatznik, for Saturday's sessions.

Jim explained to the would-be Palace players that there were only one or two spots left to fill on the Palace roster.  "But," Jim added "if any of you show yourselves to be better than any of our existing squad, you could replace that current player."  At the end of the day, Jim was sufficiently impressed by five of the youngsters to invite them to return for the February 22-24 combine.

Director of Operations, Melissa Bryant, reveals that she currently has over thirty players registered for the February combine and she's expecting many more: "A lot of players have contacted us, but haven't yet registered.  I think we'll come very close to reaching our limit of 100 players as we approach the February 10 deadline."  All the details of the February combine, including the application form, can be found here.
